Inside Bayonet, Birmingham’s new seafood restaurant and raw bar
New Seafood Destination Bayonet Set to Open in Birmingham
This weekend marked the soft opening of Bayonet, the latest culinary venture from James Beard semifinalist chef Rob McDaniel and his wife, Emily McDaniel. Situated in the historic Berry Building at 2015 2nd Avenue N, right next to their first restaurant, Helen, Bayonet promises a fresh take on seafood dining in Birmingham.
Since opening Helen nearly five years ago, the McDaniels have carved a niche in the local dining scene with their contemporary Southern cuisine. Bayonet aims to expand that legacy, featuring a menu stocked with sustainably sourced seafood, innovative preparation techniques, and bold flavors that reflect local inspirations.
Among the offerings, guests can expect a range of dishes highlighting Gulf Coast specialties, including swordfish, yellowtail snapper, and a selection of fresh oysters from the raw bar. The restaurant’s design allows seating for 54 guests, providing an intimate yet welcoming atmosphere complemented by a cocktail bar.
Bayonet is set to officially open its doors to the public on Monday, March 10. Operating hours will be from 3 PM to 9 PM, Monday through Saturday, complete with valet service starting at 4:30 PM. The McDaniels invite local seafood enthusiasts and fans of Helen to explore their new culinary creation, encouraging patrons to share their thoughts on social media.
